TV Tres: LeBron teaches your kids about gas. African tales for toddlers. And Sesame Workshop goes military.

TV Tres: In which we bring you three soundbites (screen bites?) from the world of kids’ TV, mostly because we’re pretty proud of ourselves for thinking up the name, “TV Tres.”

Four-time NBA All-Star LeBron James has joined Nickelodeon’s The Big Green Help enviro-awareness campaign. Charlie and Lola are headed to Africa (sort of.) And…if someone in your family has either been deployed or just returned from war (sorry – we’re not into delicate euphemisms), your kids may be having an understandably rough time. Sesame Workshop, as always, has your back.

At www.biggreenhelp.com, you’ll now find a brand-new game called LeBron James: Worldwide Big Green Bike-a-Thon! (How’s that for all parties involved making sure their names get out there?) Your offspring will help a bike-riding LeBron avatar deliver green tips across the globe, while also learning to reduce automobile usage and curb CO2 emissions. How we see this playing out in real life? Your kid endlessly needling you to drive less, while still needing to being driven absolutely everywhere. Thanks, LJ:WBGBAT!

We so love Charlie and Lola, the fetchingly animated adventures of little Lola and her wise and patient brother, Charlie, which airs on Playhouse Disney. (If you haven’t seen it, we’ll wait while you go set your DVR.) And now we have more reason to love, cherish and respect Tiger Aspect Productions, the company behind C&L. According to news reports, they’ve been commissioned by the BBC children’s channel, CBeebies, as well as Playhouse Disney, for Tinga Tinga Tales, a new animated series for toddlers based on classic African folk tales. And Tiger Aspect has promised to set up a fully equipped animation studio in Kenya to employ local designers, writers, musicians and animators. And they’ll be pledging 50 percent of the series’ profits towards an educational trust for children in east Africa. Goody the Good would approve.

On July 8, Sesame, along with the USO (United Service Organizations), will be kicking off The Sesame Street Experience for Military Families, a free touring show that will visit 43 “military installations” (e.g.,“bases”) across the country. It’s part of Sesame’s amazingly generous, much-needed Talk, Listen, Connect outreach program which, sadly, has already been around for two years.
